WILLIAM BARBER

Will was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1996. He specialises in commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on contentious regulatory work and telecommunications, securities and corporate litigation.

Will also has extensive experience in international arbitration and trade finance and commodities litigation. He has lived in Hong Kong since 1994 and speaks Putonghua (Mandarin) having studied the language at University in Taiwan.

STEVEN BIRT

Steven is the head of the firm's Intellectual Property Department. He qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1995 and England and Wales in 1993, and was made a partner in 2000. He has experience in all aspects of Intellectual Property, in both contentious and non-contentious matters, from both a regulatory and enforcement perspective. Steven has been involved in several Government consultations and lobbies for changes in the law, and his practice includes advising on the IP aspects of Media, Entertainment and Information Technology cases.

He is a Council member and current President (term 2005-2007) of the Hong Kong Institute of Trade Mark Practitioners, a member and Committee member of the International Trademark Association, and a member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association.

Steven has been acknowledged four times as a Leading Lawyer in the area of Intellectual Property in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2001/2002, 2002/2003, 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 editions), and acknowledged three times as one of Asia's Leading Lawyers in the AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers Survey in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

ANDREW BROWN

Andrew has been a partner of Richards Butler since November 1, 1996. He qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1988 and in Hong Kong in 1990. EMMA CASDAGLI

Emma qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1989 and in Hong Kong in 2002. Before joining Richards Butler in 2006, Emma was head of the Clifford Chance aircraft finance practice for the Asian region from 2001. She has over 14 years of experience based in London, Tokyo and, most recently, Hong Kong. Emma specialises in banking and finance law including asset finance and syndicated lending, advising banks and financial institutions, export credit agencies and lessors on cross border transactions of all types, but predominantly in the aviation sector.

Emma was listed as one of the leading lawyers in Aircraft Finance in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (every edition since 2002/2003) the Asia Law Leading Lawyers Guide (2004 and 2005 editions) and the Chambers Global: Worlds Leading Lawyers for Business (2006 edition).

JANET CHEUNG

Janet has been a partner of Richards Butler since 2001. Janet qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1995. Her practice includes mergers and acquisitions, takeovers and private company investments. She also acts for sponsors, global coordinators, companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and B share companies listed in the PRC. David qualified in Hong Kong in 1999 and in Australia in 1985. He obtained his Master of Laws from the University of Sydney specialising in Restrictive Trade Practices and Corporate Finance. Prior to moving to Hong Kong in 1998, David was a senior associate in the commercial litigation section of a leading Sydney law firm. He became a partner of Richards Butler in January 2000. CHRIS HOWSE

Chris Howse is the senior partner of Richards Butler Hong Kong. He specialises in maritime and commercial litigation and arbitration including charterparty and bill of lading problems; all aspects of P&I and Defence Club work; international trade, commodities and sale of goods disputes. He has particular expertise in maritime and international trade disputes in the PRC. He conducts CMAC and CIETAC arbitrations in Beijing. He also specialises in insurance litigation and professional negligence work for solicitors, barristers, doctors, dentists, accountants, estate agents and other professionals. Chris is a fellow of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Hong Kong Branch), a fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators Ltd., a supporting member of The London Maritime Arbitrators Association, a panel member of The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and a panel member of The China Maritime Arbitration Commission. ALICE HUTCHENS

Alice read jurisprudence at Oxford University and joined Richards Butler's London office as a trainee in 1992. Having qualified in England & Wales in 1994 she moved to Richards Butler Hong Kong where she qualified in 1995.

Alice became a Partner in May 2001 and is the head of the firm's Property Litigation Department. Alice has experience in both commercial and property litigation. Her areas of practice include professional indemnity litigation, sale of goods disputes, general debt recovery, construction disputes, landlord and tenant law, agency, property management, security and guarding services law and personal injury litigation.

Denise Jong qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1993 and in Hong Kong in 1994. She became a partner of Richards Butler in 1998. DAVID KAN

David was admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 1998 and in Hong Kong in 1999. His area of expertise is medico-legal work. David acts for hospitals and healthcare professionals, including doctors, dentists and nurses. David also undertakes personal injury work; employees' compensation claims and commercial litigation, acting on behalf of medical insurers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

LIANJUN LI

Lianjun (M.Sc., LLM, FCIArb, CDCS) qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong, England and Wales in 2002. He has extensive experience in shipping, admiralty, international trade, letter of credit, ship finance and international commercial arbitration and in practical and legal aspects of doing business, negotiation and litigation in the PRC. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute Arbitrators, a Panel Arbitrator of China International Economic Arbitration Commission and China Maritime Arbitration Commission, a fellow at the Maritime Law Centre of Beijing University, a visiting professor at Dalian Maritime University and a certified documentary credit specialist of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and International Finance Services Associations. Lianjun studied and worked at Dalian Maritime University and Stockholm University before he came to work in Hong Kong in 1993. He was qualified as second officer for ocean going vessel and worked at seas over two years.

Kar Chung has been a partner of Richards Butler since 2001. Kar Chung qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1994 and in England and Wales in 1995. ASHA SHARMA

Asha has been a partner of Richards Butler since 1st March, 1999. She qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1993 and England and Wales in 1994. She is also a qualified Legal Executive in Hong Kong. She joined Richards Butler in 1991 as a trainee solicitor. Prior to starting her traineeship, she worked for the Company's Judge in the Supreme Court of Hong Kong for nearly 10 years during which period she gained extensive experience in civil court procedures. Asha has experience in both shipping and commercial litigation. CHRIS TANG

Chris was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1997 and in England and Wales in 2001. Chris' primary experience is in syndicated secured and unsecured lending and asset and project financing acting for banks and financial institutions, borrowers, project companies and investors in Hong Kong, mainland China and throughout Asia.

Chris has experience in ship financings of all types of vessels and syndicated and bilateral lending, both secured and unsecured, acting for both financial institutions and shipowners throughout Asia. He also regularly represents shipowners and charterers in their second-hand sale and purchase and newbuilding construction transactions.
